Pimentel's Position

This annotated interview of David Pimentel by another member of the Cornell Ag school is quite revealing about Pimentel's underlying opinions and orientation, as he opposes investment in ethanol and biofuels generally as a substitute for oil. The comments are interesting too.

Basically, Pimentel is very concerned that we're heading off a cliff, and he sees the only wake-up call that will perhaps avert the catastrophe as huge spikes in energy prices. Subsidizing or lowering taxes on oil or alternatives delays that wake-up call and makes things worse. And those people who disagree with him are making up numbers for political reasons, not based on reality.

Scary stuff.
